Clarins Everlasting Long-Wearing Foundation & Concealer on sensitive combo skin

A review of Clarins Everlasting Long-Wearing & Hydration Matte Foundation and Concealer on sensitive acne prone combination skin. In this review, you will also get to see a photo diary of how the Clarins Everlasting Long-Wearing & Hydration Matte Foundation and Concealer performed on my skin over a period of slightly more than 12 hours (plus a photo of how it looked after a 2 hour gym session).

Clarins Everlasting Long-Wearing Foundation & Concealer

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky to be invited to a Clarins event at Clarins Sydney HQ. I got to preview a lot of new products and was gifted the Clarins Everlasting Long-Wearing & Hydration Matte Foundation and Concealer along with the Clarins Double Serum.

Review of Clarins Everlasting Long-Wearing & Hydration Matte Foundation and Concealer

I’ve been testing out the Everlasting Long-Wearing & Hydration Matte Foundation and Concealer for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts!

I'm in the shade 112#N Sandalwood (in MAC Foundations I go between a NC 35-NC37 though neutral tones work best on me). There are currently 20 shades to choose from. To find you shade, go here: pick your shade

This is a lovely foundation that really lives up to its name of long wearing hydration. It is meant to be suitable for all skin types.

While testing this foundation, I treated it as my moisturiser. I didn’t wear a primer or any moisturiser/lotion/serum. I also did not use any powder or setting spray.

It is a mattifying foundation that give you a matte look upon application, without looking flat. I wore it for about 12 hours each time I applied but I reckon it could last for 24 hours or more (if you were in such a situation).

The “matte” function come from the inclusion of bamboo powder in the formula. On my combination skin, I felt that it did keep my complexion looking matte for about 3 hours (I didn’t use a primer nor powder. Nor did I wear any mattifying skincare). It got slightly dewy after 3 hour plus mark and I just blotted.

It is also meant to be non-transferable. I tested this by wearing this foundation while I did a 30 min run and when I was dabbing off my sweat, I saw little to no foundation on my towel. Of course, if you were to wipe your face, some does come off. It’s non-transferable not cement!

You can apply it with your hands, a blender, or a brush. Either way, it blends like a dream. I did find that I used less product when I applied it with a synthetic brush though.

It has skincare benefits included in the formula and provides a number of benefits which I’ll go into now.

Active plant ingredients and skincare benefits:

  • rich in bamboo powder, which helps matiify complexion

  • quinoa rich in Vitamin E fights free radicals, provides collagen and repairs deeper pores in the skin damaged from sun and pollution. The quinoa-based face packs penetrate deep into the skin with the help of peptides and amino acids and aid in the stimulation of healthy, new collagen. (link to source)

  • oat sugar extracts; to help moisturise the skin: Oatmeal can soak up the excess oil on your skin and help treat acne. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties help to treat dry skin and remove dead skin cells. Oats also contain compounds called saponins, which are natural cleansers. They remove the dirt and oil that clog the pores and exfoliate the skin (link to source)

  • a plant-based micro-patch extract that binds water to its surface while protecting it from dehydration,

I felt that it was a very brilliant formula. A matte while hydrating foundation! I have combination skin, so there are dry patches on my face. The foundation kept those hydrated. The foundation smoothed out those dry patches and didn’t catch on my dried out pimples which were scarring a little.

Sometimes I break out from wearing long wear foundation. Over the weeks that I wore it, I didn’t notice any more acne than I usually get. Also, some foundations make the chronic acne scars around the bottom side of my jaw itch. This foundation did not cause me that irritation.

The texture of this foundation is like “second skin”. It is a light weight fluid foundation that is not thick (surprising for such a long wear foundation). Coverage is medium to full. You can build it up and also skip the concealer.

This foundation is great base for your blush, highlighter, and bronzer. It just made such colour products perform better. Blush/highlighter/bronzer/contour all showed up better and true to colour. I felt I had to use less of those products to get the effect that I wanted.

I would definitely repurchase.YES!

The design of the bottle looks and feels luxurious. It is a glass bottle and the foundation comes out via a pump. Nice and sanitary.

Along with the foundation, comes a matching concealer in the same long wear formula: Clarins Everlasting Concealer.

The concealer comes in six shades and you can find you shade here: pick you shade

I'm in the shade 01 Light.

Like the foundation, this concealer suits all skin types and is long wearing with hydration benefits. The concealer is a little bit thicker than the foundation in texture. I only needed to use a little bit to get the desired coverage. The other cool thing about it is that it works as an eyeshadow primer!!!!

Like the foundation, you can apply it with your hands, a blender, or a brush. Either way, it blends like a dream. I found that tapping with my fingers (warming up the product a bit helps) and then lightly tapping with a blender worked well.

As a concealer, it is already amazing. Doesn't catch on my dry spots, makes my under eye area brighter and smoother looking. Colour corrects all that darkness (I sometimes have to use a colour correcting but not with this winner).

As an eyeshadow primer, I'm blown away. Not only because it colour corrects my dark rings (goes all around my eyes) but makes eyeshadows (powder, liquid, and cream) look incredibly pigmented and true to pan colour.

Trust me, it is an incredible concealer and well worth the price. Like the foundation, I would definitely repurchase.

Active plant ingredients:

  • Horse Chestnut: It helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles over time. Aescin has been shown to inhibit hyaluronidase, an enzyme that can break down the hyaluronic acid found in skin. As skin uses this as a moisturizing component, a reduction in this enzyme can lead to an increase in skin hydration. Horse Chestnut Extract has soothing, anti-irritant and toning properties on the skin. (link to source)

  • Quinoa: rich in Vitamin E fights free radicals, provides collagen and repairs deeper pores in the skin damaged from sun and pollution. The quinoa-based face packs penetrate deep into the skin with the help of peptides and amino acids and aid in the stimulation of healthy, new collagen. (link to source)

Performance over a period of 12 hours

As noted above, I did a "diary" of the performance of the foundation and concealer over a period of slightly over 12 hours. I did a lot of running around that day. I also have a photo of how the foundation held up after a 2 hour gym session. I tested both the foundation and concealer without any moisturiser/skincare, primer, setting powder/spray/mist.

Sorry for the frowny face - I truly enjoy this product but I think my smiley selfies look silly for this purpose!

Middle picture shows makeup freshly applied. Just look at how brilliant the colours of the colour cosmetics (eyeshadow, blush, highlighter and bronzer) look!

After 3 hours, my natural oils started to surface and it started to look dewy.

I did blot twice over the course of the day using a dry clean blender. Makeup was not disturbed and it kept my oils in check as you can see from the photos above.

And there you go! It lived up to its name of being a long lasting matte foundation and concealer with hydration. No cake face here. Did not accentuate fine lines or dry patches. Did not slide off my face as most foundations do with skincare/primer/setting powder/setting mist.
